Frost and Unholy Specs and APE weights and scales for 3.3.5

Heya guys!!  Yes.  You know you love “The Hass”!!  o.O

Now that I’ve made you suffer through that, *sadistic grin* lets get down to something you guys probably will love to have.  APE (Attack Power Equivalency) weights and Pawn scales for Frost and Unholy DPS!!

Please note that these scales do not include the 2 piece or 4 set bonuses.

Also these scales assume that you are looking for “ideal gear” in the 260-270+ ilvl range.  This is basically a “Best in Slot” APE weighting.

Enchants, Trinkets, and Weapons

It is important to note that this site (and APE scales in general) will not always properly reflect the best choices for enchants, trinkets, and weapons.  Please do not rely upon these scales for those three categories.  While some results are accurate, others can be wildly off.

Pawn Mod Frost Scale

( Pawn: v1: "Frost": ArmorPenetration=3.08, CritRating=2.12, Dps=7.12, Strength=2.83, HitRating=2.23, Agility=1.67, HasteRating=2.15, ExpertiseRating=2.08, Speed=394.23, Ap=1, GemQualityLevel=81 )

Please note that due to weird HTML hatred, some symbols do not copy properly.  I placed this into a <code> format and that should fix the issue.

You can download Pawn at Curse.  Pawn will auto load some weight scales at the start.  Just turn them off.  I did.

Frost T10 Set Bonuses

T10 2 piece:  400 APE

T10 4 piece:  380 APE

Frost Spec

Cookie Cutter Frost:  1/52/18

  • The currently held “best” spec by popular opinion.

SJ’s Frost:  0/53/18

  • More dps than the cookie cutter version, but also generates more TPS.

SJ’s Frost Slow Spec (H LK):  0/55/16

  • Loses 500-2000 dps in P1 of H LK, but once the first transition begins it only loses about 300 dps tops.

Hi there, SkeletonJack! I’ve read your blog for a long time but never posted before (great info btw!). I am wondering why you run 5/5 Killing Machine in your specs when most of the top frost players I have seen are running 4/5. Thanks!

4/5 KM is an offshoot, or alternative, spec option. The dps difference is so minimal that it’s really a question of personal preference at that point. Frost has about 5-8 points that could be shifted to different talents with only minuscule changes to your dps.

The “cookie cutter” spec listed is fairly prevalent in the WoW community, which is why I chose to list that one.

how the heck do i turn off the other Scales on Pawn, it wont let me delete them or anything, cant seem to tell them to shove off and leave me alone, while useing the new scores you gave us…

ROFL – Accidently found the answer to my question, RETARTED GUI imho tho…. but i like the addon overall..

had to click on each one seperately and click on remove from tooltip, wasnt exactly how i thought it needed to be removed, was assuming i needed to delete and wouldnt let me, drove me up the wall for like an hour, then i post and accidently find the answer 10secs after hehehe

1st ty for all youre info and work on the DK dps builds,,,,on ya unholy cookie cutter,wich do ya think is best to use duel weld or a 2 handed,wepon,and is blood pres the one to use in that spec?????

2hander in blood presence for unholy spec…

right now the only quality dual wield spec is frost…
again there you would be in blood presence as well

Hey SJ,

Thanks for all the hard work… and sorry for the poopy pants. I have 2 questions.

1. CT Mod doesn’t seem to have a DK specific UI build on it site. I see every other class in the list. Am I missing something?

2. Would it be at all possible to give a list of NON-heroic BIS items? My guild will not be on heroic 25 anytime soon (we’re still 9/12 regular). I have strongly considered a realm transfer because my server (Misha) is routinely very, very, far behind in progression. Nevertheless, it’s where I am for now. Any advice on the regular mode stuff? Thanks!

1st of all, big props to you again for all the awesome info here on the website (I’ve been recommending it to every DK I know). I’ve been scouring the interwebs and haven’t been able to find any info (or at least nothing concrete and non-contradictorily) on my specific questions, so please don’t take these as too noob-like.

So here’s the story: I had to take a break from WoW for a few months; before I went DW Frost was considered a pretty much non-viable for raiding, but now I’m hearing from guildees and a few other websites that it’s better than 2h UH (Especially when comparing it to the 2h Frost since the haste buff doesn’t do as much for DPS in 2h weapon speed as it does to 1h weapon speed, according to EJ http://elitistjerks.com/f72/t83319-frost_dps_3_3_3_will_day_long_remembered/ ). So what I’m wondering is: what level of 1h’s would I have to get to be able to make the switch (preferably w/o having to regem EVERYTHING to make up for the exp. While on the subject of that EJ post, I’ve got one little question about your UH spec: in the frost tree, would the extra 12% speed from Icy Talons really be worth more than the 3% crit and ability to spam Annihilation (2/5 Icy Talons + 3/3 Annihilation vs. 5/5 Icy Talons).

And any other help you could give me to upping my DPS would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks much mate and keep up the good work.
