My Video Card blew up… So of course it’s time to test out a new one!! :D

Heya guys!!

Wow…you have no idea how good it felt to say that, “Heya guys!!”  My lead off to every post.  Felt like coming home.  So I’ve been out of a computer for nearly a month now.  It’s sucked hardcore.  Ugh, I hate it.  You don’t realize how much you use a computer until you’ve been denied it for weeks!!

Waiting to hear back from my resident computer guru on these cards, but I figured this was the perfect opportunity to hear random feedback from other gamers as to what they thought, or if they know of another good card/deal out there.  Must be over 512 MG, 256 bit, 120 core processors, PCI Express card while under $300.00.  Dem’s de rules!!

 

Death Knight Posts!?!?

No wai!?!?!  Yeah actually, just not a full time deal.  My roomie leveled his first alt to level 80.  And it’s a wittle baybee DK!!  Awww!!!  Don’t mind the blood in the cradle, that’s normal!!  :D

But he’s had to ask me several questions that I just wasn’t 100% sure about the answers anymore since I’ve not been keeping up on things.  So once I get my new video card I’m probably going to reactivate WoW (for just a month, not promising more than that sorry) to say hey to some friends and goof around.

And while doing that I’ll probably put up a few posts about specs and rotations.  If I’m going to do the homework for my roomie, might as well let you guys benefit some as well!!  ;)   Besides, I feel the need for some PvP!!

 

The future of SJ WoW!!

I’m not sure there is much of one until the X-pac next Christmas 2010.  The one thing about WoW I’ve missed is PvP.  I’m really not missing the DKP/Raid grind at all.  And it’s nice just reading a book or going out with my friends when I want to instead of scheduling around raid times.

But the new “rating system” for BG’s has me highly interested if they do it right.  I had originally planned on working for Grand Marshall in vanilla WoW until I learned how the ranking system worked.  Which basically meant if I wasn’t going to put in at least 40 hours in PvP a week, it wasn’t gonna happen.  I didn’t want GM *that* bad, heh.

I always did really well in BG’s…phenomenally well actually.  But Arena’s always posed a problem.  I’d suck in many combos or just not play well with certain people.  And the several teams I got into the 1900’s with always fell apart right before we made 2k+. 

Supposedly in the X-Pac the new rating system in BG’s will allow people to bybass Arena if they really don’t like it (which I don’t).  SO!  If they implement the BG ranking system well, I will likely be making a more full time come back at that point and time.

 

My Champions Online Review

Initially I rated it very high.  And then within a week of it’s release I stopped playing.  Read: “bad sign”.

I think eventually CO will be a great game.  But at initial release it needs a lot of work still.  More than anything it was the “bright shiny new toy” syndrome affecting me as I ran to anything that was not WoW.  :)   Forgive me please!!

I actually still dig champions online, they have made some improvements, nothing signifigant but filled in some content gaps and added another power set recently, slightly cleaned up the crafting, added a new pvp map……. still could use some more time, but the last thing to remember is its a console mmorpg, it will never be anything more than a casual game…

You could always look at the 58XX or 48XX cards from raedon as well they make a nice card these days.

Hey SJ! Woot! You’re alive! Looking forward to anything you post. Doing some respectable dps as frost DW, but unholy toons are really blowing up the charts lately. So much uncertainty out in the forums…can’t wait to see what you conclude. Def stick with NVIDIA and /grin. -Pwn

Christmas 2010 for the expansion? Not likely. Icecrown is the last raid instance for Wrath of the Lich King, so when it hits – likely Dec09 or Jan10 – the next thing to come will be Cataclysm. Maybe 6 months from then, tops. Since release of LK, there’s been 5-6 months between raid launches. 5-6 months from Trial of the Crusader is December/January. Summer of 2010 is more likely for Cataclysm. It’s a “smaller” expansion, content-wise, with only 5 levels. most of the revamping that they are doing is “under the hood” type stuff, with the mastery system and attempting to rebalance itemization.

Go eVGA… they make the best in the business (accounting support and quality of products). While it is the more expensive of the three… you are getting what you are paying for.

I’m truly sad to see the route which this blog has taken. It used to be my primary source of DK info and it was very useful and informative.

It’s just gone down hill for the last couple of months.

Fewer and fewer posts and meaningless posts with no real value.

I miss the old skeletonjack. Bring him back please!

Welcome back EJ, i hope you keep posting, i enjoy reading the stuffs you post here, byt yes, there are lots of changes that DKs are running through, and even more coming in patch 3.3.

Whoot! I’m glad to hear from you mate. Let just say thank you very much for all the information and worked you’ve done on DK dps and tanking– especially the tanking portion. It has greatly helped me since my DK is my first tank and I’ve needed a lot of help.

I’m highly curious how viable DW tanking will become now that a 1-h rune of the stoneskin gargoyle is being added.

Loving DW Frost I somehow still not hitting the numbers like other DW– could be a gear issue.

not quite sure what kind of research you are really going to be able to do between when you get back your video card and the month you go back into wow…. may or may not check it out, kind have to earn some of us readers back I would think (you have let us down, telling us all the futures of SJ and coming through on none of them) but with that said, welcome back .

Radeon HD 5850 hands down. Its cheap, awesome performance and you get a displayport + hdmi + 2dvi.

I would highly consider getting the ATI 5770. It’s about the same performance as the 4870 and yet it supports direct x11. If you would like to spend a little bit more you can get the 5850 or 2 5770s. Crossfire 5770’s will out-perform a 5870. Good luck.

If I were buying a video card right now I would got 9800GTX+ cause its the best in my price range, however I would never buy anything over the 260 cause my 8800gt is great and the worst thing I ever have to do is set the graphics to high instead of very high so the 260 seems like a little overkill and anything over that just seems waisted to me.
Also memory seems to have little affect on where these cards benchmark. Looks like the 512mb cards are just as good as the 1gb and up cards as long as their processing powers are matched.

Welcome back, good to see something new up on your blog. I haven’t played WoW in over 2 months now and I am loving the free time I have found. However, not playing WoW isn’t by choice. My laptop crashed and I had to do a clean re-install of the OS and I can’t get this crappy internet to download the patches. It took 10 days just to download the game client from the blizzard site. Pain in my arse. As for the video card, the 8800gt is an amazing card for its price. I run 2 of them in my desktop back in the states, bridged of course, and they allowed me to play Crysis on max settings. I have been looking to build another gaming rig and stumbled across a new card that looks promising. I’ll post both links for you from Newegg. Arm > str gemming? with the recent patch does it still make sense to stack arm pen over str for a blood dk at the 6200 AP threshold?

Gromm has a valid point. With the careless attitude SJ has shown the last couple of months this isn’t really the best place to turn to if you’re looking for DK info. I find it kind of sad since this used to be one of the greatest web sites out there for death knights back when SJ really had a passion for it.
