Things to come on SJ!!

Posted by: Skeleton Jack   in Website

Heya guys!!  So lets clear some air on a few things.  I got burnt out on WoW a while back.  It became obvious when my post counts dropped from 10-20ish a week to maybe 3-5 a week.  And it was made poignantly obvious when I “quit” WoW.  Which lasted all of 3 weeks.

Those 3 weeks were awesome btw!!  I watched over 50 movies in the first 2 weeks.  I told all of my friends to go to hell, I was “on vacation”!  Heh.  Got one of those movie pass things and watched like 3-5 movies a day on work days, sometimes more on days I had off.  Huge movie buff here!!  It was nice catching up on stuff.

But anyways, since then I’ve come back to WoW and been trying to understand the “burn out” factor.  And I’ve got a decent handle on things now.  On top of that, I came to find on that little sabbatical that I really missed posting on my site.

I recently quit my guild.  Part of the reason was the raiding schedule.  In my new guild I only have to raid 3 nights a week (as I can’t make one of the 4 raid nights).  Frees up a bit of time there.  In addition to that I went into my TV’s DVR and cancelled all scheduled recordings outside of brand new episodes for some of my favorite stuff.  Which also means a ton more free time.

A TON more really as I’ve gotten into NCIS recently (and just cancelled it) and it would take me all week watching 2-5 a day to just clear those out of my DVR alone!! o.O

I also sat down and read a lot of my old posts, which were hella fun to write and do.  And I’ve come to realize that I’ve lost some of that initial passion because I’ve placed myself in a box!!  Instead of writing about what comes to me, sometimes I write about what I think “needs” to be up.  Which is devastating to creative writing honestly.

I’ve also let the site become very disorganized, not focusing on keeping track of post ideas, solidifying categories, and more.

I’ve got a lot of plans for the website.  I’ve finally begun delving into the ads and junk (and it’s a tad bit overwhelming FYI), and want to also see about doing some redesign on the website.  And I’ve finally sat down and made the time to do these things.  Whereas before, I was tackling too much without making time for it to be feasible.

Over the next two weeks the focus will be PTR and trying to better understand those Ads and make them less…ugly.  I might even figure out how to stop getting medical skeleton ads on there, heh.

But I wanted to also throw this out there.  For all of you loyal fans who kept reading anyways, whether I was taking a break or focusing on something you were not that super interested in, thanks.  I appreciate it.  I’ve got some plans for this website, and I hope in the end you’re happy with the result.

Dear Mr. Jack,

I just wanted to finally leave a comment on one of your posts saying thank you so much for all of the information you have here. If it wasn’t for you and your database of knowledge about the DK class I was going to abandon WoW, I’m glad I found this site because it has re-fueled my interested in min/maxing and raiding the newest content., as well as pvping.

Thanks!

Hey SJ! First i’d like to say welcome back! Second i know the main reason I come to this site and read is that you seem to know your sh*t when it comes to DKs. I’d say keep focused on what you do best, dont feel like you have to post 10 times a week just to keep “content” coming out. I hate having to wade through a bunch of fluff just to get to the good stuff!

Things we really enjoy are anything DK related, keep up the talent build posts, those are SO HELPFULL! I really like being able to come to bloggers sites and get ideas on talent builds, glyphs, etc. I play almost every class in the game and having to keep up with PTR changes and what build is the best of PVP or PVE is very time consuming for 8+ classes.

I really liked when 3.1 came out you were all over posting what builds worked best, what glyphs to use, rotations, tips, etc. It was concise and had easy to read explanations. Keep up that kind of stuff! 3.2 is right around the corner, and with the DK AOE nerfs i’m still left wondering how it will all turn out.

I’m sure you can look at your site traffic and see that when patches hit your traffic spikes.

I come here to read what you have to say about DKs. Stay on target and you’ll keep us around a good long time. :-)

Thanks SJ!

One of the reasons I’ve managed to keep my blog going is that I specifically try not to write just what people might want to see. Usually I write posts about things I just learned or rants about something that’s changing in-game. I never want to do the whole “BiS-list” like you do, even though it’s immensely helpful.

Similarly, I don’t want to do the whole “DK-guide to boss encounter X” because that stuff bores me to read. So I focus on ranting about stuff that interests me and hot topics of the day that I think I can add something interesting to.

Welcome back SJ.

I know how you feel, in Classic WoW, I had a burn-out that kept me away from the game for over 6 months. This was due to being a hardcore raider 6 days per week, 4 hours per evening and being tired, while experiencing alot of lootdrama. When I eventually returned, I decided to never raid at the same pace ever again. I haven’t even touched a 25 man raid in TBC. I’ve kept myself to a regular weekly Karazhan (and later ZA), which I enjoyed a great deal. Since WOTLK, I rerolled an Alliance DK to join a friend of mine on his server and I’m currently in a guild where I can actually get away with Real Life. We have a somewhat large playerbase, with a solid core, of which I believe to be one, and none of us are required to raid if RL needs us. The attitude towards the game is refreshing and decreases the pressure on a player, which means I’ll likely not burn out ever again. I sleep alot, stick to the times that we raid pretty closely (and so does the guild) and take my rest when I have to.

Yes we’re behind on “progress”, but at the same time, we’re knocking Yoggs head in Phase 2 Uld10 and Recently put down Mimiron25. Today we hope to get a decent amount of bosskills to make sure we’ll face Mimiron and hopefully Vezax this week.

I’m so lucky that our guild is imba, full of cool, helpfull like minded people , we raid x3 nights a week , have a laugh and take the piss etc. We are upto phase 2 on yogg 25 man.
My point is get to hang with peeps with the same aims & attitude, it so helps to avoid the burnout and makes the ‘game’ friggin awesome.

Mate just a quick request post.

As your working or will be working on the PTR info can you also take along some calculations as the the parry/dodge ratio and how Dk tanks are gonna be in 3.2 with the HP nerfish comming and the parry changes?

Atm i’m tanking alot but we DK tanks are still too damn squishy in Ulduar ;)

Hiya SJ,

I just wanted to say welcome back. I’ve been checking this site everyday now for about 8 months or so.

I was sad to see you go but at the same time I couldn’t help but understand a little of what you are going through. I’m currently taking a break from the game myself in order to set things straight in my life. I plan on coming back in the fall if all goes well.

The thing I like most about coming here and reading your posts is not only the fact that you know what you’re talking about when it comes to DKs, but also your inherent ability to articulate what’s on your mind.

For me it’s great to be able to come here and see that there are others who enjoy this game very much, but at the same time have RL issues to deal with as well.

You’re doing a great job with this site and I’m sure that any direction you choose to take it will not matter to your devoted fan base.
