Heya guys!! Some of you may know, others not, but I’m an old school RPG’er. I got started playing table top role playing games when I was 10 years old. I went to Camp High Rocks in NC during the summers and as it turned out one of my cabin mates was a GM (game master) who wanted to run Gamma World. Ever since, I’ve been hooked on RPG’s.
(As a side note, if you’ve got boys and can afford to send them to Camp High Rocks then I BIG TIME recommend it. One of the best experiences of my life: Hiking, swimming, sailing, wind surfing, canoing, kayaking, riflery, arts & crafts, sports, archery, horse back riding, and *so* much more)
RPG’s are of course what lead me into computer games, live action role playing (LARP’s), MMO’s, etc… But to this day, one of the best games ever made is still D&D 3.5 D20. Sadly, WotC also released 4.0 D&D.
If you didn’t buy it, don’t. Save yourself the money. Speaking as one gamer to another 4.0 is a total waste of time and money, other than as a resource to crib some good ideas from.
As one of my many acomplishments that netted me zero acclaim or money, I wrote a gaming system a ways back two different times (same one, different rules each time). It never left the Beta/Play Test stage, but it was a ton of fun to use with my friends. Why’s this matter? Reference point only.
If you’re a fan of role playing games in general I will now point you towards my D20 Dungeons and Dragons page at the top of this website. Inside it has house rules, an online link to some of the actual 3.5 core rules on another website, and some of our campaign specific details as well. Of note, today I am pointing out to you the D20 3.5 D&D House Rules page.
To be honest, I wrote this as a tool for people who know the 3.5 system. It’s not going to do you a lot of good if you don’t pick up a 3.5 book and read the rules. But if you know how to play 3.5 D20, or are willing to pick the game up, then I highly recommend using the rules we use.
I wrote them, cribbed some ideas from D20 4.0, and play tested (discussed) these changes with my gaming friends who have all been playing RPG’s now from anywhere between 10 years to as many as 30+ years. I’ve been RPG’ing for 22 years myself (do the math in this post and you get my age), while some of the guys have been doing it for about 30.
These are solid house rules, and work very very well. I have plans to include some modifications to the base classes as well, and the DMG prestige classes. If you have questions about anything D20 related, post a comment on this post.
For my older readers who may be old school enough to recognize this pic, have at ye!!
And if that did not trigger any nostalgia for you, then I have here at least some humor for D&D peeps!!
Heh, heh, heh…
Lastly, if you don’t own any 3.5 books you can pick them up now stupidly cheap. You can maybe find them cheaper elsewhere, but here’s a link at Amazon to get you started if you’re interested. Most of the 3.5 books are way cheaper now (outside of collector’s editions).
DEATH KNIGHTS WHAT!?!?!
Sorry guys if you’re sitting there going, “WTF SJ?!” But I’m a gamer, and intend to eventually open my website into multiple pages about WoW, D20, Champions Online, and more!! Have no fear however, plenty of DK goodness coming soon!!
This web page’s main focus will remain Death Knights.
