Totem Stomping…Death Knight Style.

Posted by: Skeleton Jack   in Macros, PvP

Heya guys!!  Simply put, totems are a massive pain in the you know what.  So, why not just get rid of them?  :)

#showtooltip
/cast Scourge Strike
/startattack
/cast Rune Strike
/petattack
/petattack [target=Healing]
/petattack [target=Mana]
/petattack [target=Earthbind]
/petattack [target=Tremor]
/petattack [target=Grounding]
/petattack [target=Cleansing]

Basically this is set up for Unholy because it’s going to be the primary spec that will use a ghoul.  There is a Frost variant that picks up the ghoul as well however, so feel free to remove the /cast Scourge Strike line and add in another attack if you so like.

But what about the Stoneclaw totem?  It’s still bugged about last I checked and not properly shielding the totems like it’s supposed to.  So no worries there for the moment.  *shrug*

When giving your pet kill commands, everything works in reverse for targeting priority.  So looking at the above list as an example, your pet will choose targets in the following order:

  1. Cleansing Totem
  2. Grounding Totem
  3. Tremor Totem
  4. Earthbind Totem
  5. Mana Spring Totem (or Mana Tide Totem)
  6. Healing Stream Totem
  7. Current Target

The concept is pretty simple.  Your ghoul focuses on your main target unless there are totems out that need to be killed.  Now an alternative to this macro would be to simple remove the first four lines that deal with your personal attacks.  Many times you may find it necessary to put the pet on a healer, while you dps another target.  Especially useful for healers skilled at running away and drinking.

In that case simply remove the first four lines of the macro and make sure you can spam that button easily when fighting shaman.  Some people think this is in bad form.  *shrug*  I’m gonna use what I have available to me.  Nothing personal.

You should take out the first /petattack line. Depends upon the setup and whatnot, but there are cases where you want the pet to keep the healer in combat while focusing on the DPS. Other than that, great macro!

Hey SJ, I was looking over your pvp gear in your armory profile and I have something that will def help you in arena.
You need to stack spell penetration, 75 is nice, but 130 is the best. Because unholy basically does all shadow damage, druids and priests can increase resistances to that type of magic so you need to stack spell pen to make up for it.
Warlocks do something too, they always resist a bunch of my damage, anyone know why?

Not related to the post, but I thought since it’s the newest one it’ll get the most views.
Anyways, I found a nice bug I haven’t heard anyone talk about so I thought I’d mention it here and not on the blizz forums so maybe it’ll stay a bit longer…

If you have a second spec with any improved presence talent and you switch the presence of choice (blood for dps, frost for tanking), you’ll keep the bonus because of the talent. When you switch specs now, you’ll have the bonus of the other presence despite not having the talent anymore. I don’t know if you do get the other boni of the presence, haven’t tested it much.

This lets me dps in blood presence with 10% more life thanks to going into frost tank spec, switching presences to frost and then back to blood and then going back to blood spec. Pretty awesome, test it out, maybe make a post about it SJ if it really works.

The totem stomping macro you posted is common among pvp locks and is something Blizz has promised shaman they’ll fix soon as this represents mindless button mashing and zero skill invested…

Any chance we’re gonna get an updated Best in Slot list? How long have we been in 3.1? lol

that might take a while due to the fact that most people can’t even get into a good ulduar group and those that do haven’t even had all the drops out and the time to test it.

This is in response to Grief regarding Warlocks resisting his spells – Warlocks have a chance to proc Nether Protection when they take spelldamage reduces dmg 60% (Destruction Talent tree) Its due for a nerf come 3.1.2 to 30%

Hey SJ, can u post an update for stats?

Since the patch a couple stuff has change, and i been with a question of weather to use a loot that has Armor penetration, or one that has Haste Rating.

I know ARP is good for Blood, but what about UH? What should we care most about after hit cap?

Actually forget about my comment. I found out a website that breaks down the stats by spec. It really is good, and i will post the link so you or anyone can take a look at:

um you do know blizzard is trying to find a way to stop totem stomping?

Honestly it’s a technology program, they can’t fix stomping macros because of this. They only thing they could possibly do with current tech is stop pets in general from targeting totems. Which won’t happen.
