Devs at Play on the PTR: Part 8, SJ lol’ing at Blizzard

Posted by: Skeleton Jack   in Uncategorized

Heya guys!!  LOL, omfg.  LMAO, ROFDLMAO omg.  OMG it’s too much!!  OH MY GOD!!!  LOL

Gimme a minute…

LMFAO!!!  Oh man this is sweet irony!!!  ROFL

OMFG, lol!

/sigh

OK, lol…sorry.  LOL.  *snicker*  *giggle*  Hehe.  Blizzard…lol…hates this new disease-less…omg…spec crap right?  rofl  So they have made it to where Blood can’t do it anymore.  *snicker*  So uhm…they hate DW build domination too…ROFL.  Heh heh…  So they nerf it to hell to and bone IT because it’s a problem…lol.

OMFG BANDAIDS!!!  (laughing hysterically)

Oh this is too good.  I couldn’t make this crap up on my own if I tried.  LOL

So…I was looking through a ton of DK stuff, imagining what a lot of the new DK builds would look like.  0/41/26 and 41/0/26 builds are very possible.  They pick up FS/HS and also perma-ghoul.  So inherently, they have some serious potential.  They can combine heavy strikes with many advantages of those builds, while at the same time adding in Unholy tricks accenting their trees.  Add in the ghoul, and like I said.  You have potential.

And then, I stumbled across this…LOL.

Welcome to the new Disease-less Frost Spec

17/51/3

LOL, this is too good!!

So, this is a new top end spec for Frost atm on PTR.  And the last release did not cause this.  This was a hidden gem only recently discovered.

Rotation

HB -> OB -> BS -> BS – > FS -> FS

HB -> OB -> OB -> FS -> FS

Now to explain you need to understand the 2 second rule (2SR) about Runes, meaning they can be used when they just come off of CD or delayed by 2 seconds.  If this is done, they start their new CD countdown at 8, 9, or 10 seconds depending on how long you waited to use them.

The new version of HB has a 8 second cooldown.  When it had a 10 second cooldown this was the stupidest attack ever.  Rune rotations keep in order, if done properly, because of the 2 second rule.  But the PTR HB did not keep in order.  The 10 sec CD was so rigid that it would not fit properly.  So we had a problem, and Blizz fixed it to a 8 second CD.  Hoorah!!

Now the original frost specs only used IT because PS sucked *that* much for Frost.  Well, they’ve now kind of done the same thing to IT for Frost.  Outside of a RP generator, IT just isn’t as much *WIN* as it used to be.  The downside?  This requires T7 4set bonus to work.

Now, if you may have noticed by now, this is technically speaking, not a true disease-less spec.  Heh.  But close enough for me to still gimme a giggle.  HB Glyph adds in Frost Fever.  So you will have a disease ticking.  But as you 100% ignore IT/PS, I feel it still deserves at least the reference to Disease-less.  It follows the premise and heart of the build.

Whether this will be the top end winner will in many ways correlate directly to T8 itemization.  If another spec with full T8.5 can out dps a full T8.5 toon with 4 pieces of T7.5 or not.  So we will see.

Either way, this one gave me a damn good laugh.  Heh.

Well i tried this one out…and…well….3-3.2k dps MAX on ptr(with t7.5 4 item bonus)…blood presence…..not bad at all…BUT…..i am still able to pull roughly about 3.5-3.8k dps with standard frost dps specc rotation in unholy presence(3/51/17)..unholy presence……glyph of frost strike, icy touch and OB….i like this idea..i realy do…but it seems that something is missing…cant quite put my finger on it…but i cant shake the feeling that something is messed up :<

So how well does this spec perform, compared to other specs ?
Is this just a spec for the people that “refuse to spec anything else”, or is this a spec that can match the output of other specs ?

With 0/41/26 you end up leaving behind Guile of Gorefiend, which is going to be a HUGE dps boost for the build. Not worth it for a perma ghoul when Night of the Dead nets you an almost perma ghoul + GoG.

Not viable :p

Interestingly enough, this is basically the spec i was allready useing — i come on to read this and it made me laugh too, you found the spec i was allready useing!

and i would find alot of other people with pretty similar specs when i would examine everyone in ebon hold

But i havent tried that rotation, thx for the idea :P

Also im curious, are you guys actually doing LESS damage on the PTR?

Alot of people calling Overpowered on my class when i pull top dps in raids, (even while other DK are sittin at 1/2 my dps in same gear or even bvetter)

But i find it really funny, i can pull more DPS on the PTR than i can on live atm…i cant wait for this “Nurf” to happen, this is a hellova boost to my single target leavin my multi target around the same place…

or do you think they arent done and we will be hit hard somewhere, sometime before the actual patch?

I’m sure its only a matter of time before this build is nerfed, now that its been posted for awhile on EJ forums and now here :/

Too bad Rime didn’t proc on Frost Fever ticks or something similar since this build never uses IT.

We *are* doing more damage on PTR. But the OP broken specs (disease-less/DW) are not. The issue is not nerfs to the class itself, but the manner in which they are trying to fix the class. Instead of fixing the class through well thought out changes, they are simply attacking the individual problems. Which as they have learned from experience never works out well. But if fixes things for now and buys them time.

You say they are not viable, but perma ghouls were already doing 700dps with Unholy Presence specs in T7 gear. What is their potential in T8 itemization, with the added in haste benefits? Saying it’s not viable doesn’t make it so. A ghoul that does over 1k dps on its own is a possible future in the very near future. “Possible”.

I just tried out this spec on ptr and immediately loved it. One thing i would add is to have cinder-glacier on your weapon. Because of the 20% increased damage it makes your HB even more deadly, it definitely made a difference for me.

This is very interesting. Have not tested it personally and see no reason needing to test it since if it is not nerfed in one form or another SJ will post results for 3.1 builds here on his blog.

I’m not very happy with Blizzard, They designed a class that just seems there is no way of balancing it without making the class useless.

In Blizzards attempts at fixing different things they have only made the class stronger and created more problems, throwing there whole bring the player and not the class concept out the window, nice idea blizzard but it’s never gonna work.

I have played WoW for 4 years and WOTLK is by far the most casual player friendly. I seen people who were just total scrubs in B.C and I know who were not all that great of players get totally epiced out in WOTLK.

Imagine if blizzard did not have test realms what kind of a game we would have. It’s cool seeing new content on the test realms but to pay Blizzard a monthly fee and do jobs for them for free just doesn’t make any sence no matter how much you enjoy this game , so I am doubting I will be doing anymore testing myself unless blizzard is ready to hand me a check to do so.

Its all about learning to play the different trees , most people will have a favorite and probably preform better with that spec / tree .

i managed to get this to 4.2k on the ptr , i do 4.5 with my current diseaseless spec ;) so perhaps i could manage it

I really liked the 51/0/20 DiseaseFree spec from EJ and it’s carried me fine through all 25man content. Makes me angry that they fked it up. I spent a couple of hours messing with this new spec SJ mentioned. I like it so far. I did however see a decent increase by using FS before BS (3-500more). Really only used BS once in the opening as a filler before HB or FS was up again. I changed between those last 2 but didn’t decide what to keep with before i logged out. I tried the normal HB -> OB -> BS -> BS – > FS -> FS for 30 mins solid before finding the other method because those FS’s were just begging to be used first 8)…. Anyhow, just my 2 cents. I’ll post the rotation later. (im melee/exp hit capped btw.)

Glad to see this spec, i was using this already(on PTR) but not with that rotation. Frist of all i’m a tank and i only have 2p T7 DpS and some 25 naxx epic for dps. Prolly you are right, i can’t use this without the 4pT7 bonus…

So i still use this build with a full rotation of disease… i reach 2.9 / 3.1 K DpS on the PTR…

I have 1 question and 1 request:

1) DW dps is dead?
2) Bring us some Tank PoV on the PtR :D

Anyway GJ Jack, i love your blog…

Hey SJ, what are you thinking about 41/0/26? Have you played with it at all? I always have liked blood, but also liked perma-ghouls, conflicting my interests between the two trees. I was quite happy for that short time when Master of Ghouls was a 19pt(I think that’s what it was) talent, but of course that was short-lived.

Do you think 41/0/26 has viability or will it be losing too much without Dancing Rune Weapon?

So if you use glyph of howling blast you get Imp Tcy Talons effect without using IT? I really like this build and it being a diseaseless spec is just a bonus.

generally speaking if you are currently using 2h weapons then yes you will be receiving a decent damage boost in the patch. If your a DW dk well your outta luck cause thats dead. Also if your a pvper your healing is also nerfed substantially. Enjoy. I know i will

NOW they fuck us, christ, i HATE the new change to RIME, i REALLY liked my last build and i REALLY Hate Obliterate…..

With the last patch, you could pull the 20/51/0 IT PS BS BS OB – FS Dump – IT PS IT IT IT IT – FS Dump … and actually have a Great chance at getting a rime proc, while they borked the damage of IT that kinda made up for it, now its a a worthless POS imho…i really hate that ALOT…they have gone from bad, to worse to even worse every damn patch, and its not that my damage is lower or antyhing or the sort, its just the gameplay is getting more and more pathetic or forced…

Another thing driving me nutz, they keep reducing the Range of blood boil….at this rate we will very RARELY be able to convert our Blood runes into Death runes at range so we can do some range damage…

i dont care if the damn thing does 0 damage at 20 yards, atleast the ability to blow it to get the death rune would be great — they should atleast allow you to cast it even when nothing is in range, your allready screwed with range on the unholy rune, they nurfed the hell outa the damage on the frost rune, and now were gona be sittin on our blood runes too….YAY how fun…

Terror, you mean they double buffed this spec with the new 4P-T8 bonus. Now not incresing disease damage bonus but Strikes generate an additional 10 Runic Power when used !

 26

@Zalda where did you get the information that the t8 will give additional 10 Runic Power?

What do you think will be better this build or the 41/0/26 build. With the 41/0/26 build you also have 4 more points to spend so you can put one in UB (don’t know where the others would go). DS got the buff again so this might be a good build.

But then again with the new changes to Rime this might be a great build. Just burn HB everytime that Rime procs. I think there is an addon on curse then makes the screen flash when Rime procs. With that addon you don’t have to worry about missing a proc. Maybe switch the first rotation to HB BS BS OB… cause if Rime procs on the first OB then HB will be on CD for the second rotation. What would be great in the second rotation all the OB proc… OB HB OB HB OB HB FS FS FS

Tried this build on ptr. Works great and the dps is competitive with other builds. Plus rime is now sweet with this build. SJ does it again hopefully this goes live without being nerfed.

Its just depressing they have increased the dps while reducing the need to press more than 4 buttons over and over…..

HB OB BS FS…..
i use to actually enjoy playing the class alot more on live, would take a good 6-7 buttons to open combat alone…..and it was much more enjoyable imho, actually required a lil of skill to use the actions in the right order and whatnot…

so now i do more dps, and im bored as hell doing it….. how does this add up to good changes? thought DK were overpowered? so now they makin it so they allow any DK to do good damage without any thought?

i really hope they dont ruin the class to much more before Live…

@ODk i know what you mean. That is what i loved about my dk always ready to click the next button. The only thing that screws me up is bloodlust cause it make the gcd faster and have to wait for rune cd to finish.

With this build i find that the first time though takes forever, but after the first time it isnt a problem cause you using the rune cheat. I don’t have t7 bonus (got better gear then t7 stuff in slots) so on the first go i can only use 1 FS, what i do to make up for it is blow my horn and then i am all set.

I find that the FC enchant is better then the frost one by 1k for me. Also i found that this is a really spiky build for damage. 1 time i got no rime procs for 5 mins and only did 2.9k damage…

 35

(no buffs) second time i did it i got 3.7k with rime proc everytime, for 5 min… 3rd time half rime and did about 3.1k.

When rime did proc using hb right away just screwed things up too. All i did when rime proc was just use hb like normal and do an extra OB.

I also tested a 44/0/29 spec which got me 3.1k all the time, but it is pet based so if the pet dies you lose like 1.5k. What i found out about this spec is that if you do 5/6 hs by accient it will screw everything up.

lol, back to rotations. i love my dk cause there is always something to click. i have a ret pally, cast my 3-5 spells and wait for 8 secs to cast them again. just too much cd time for me.

This is from the PTR. I’d say it’s a good specc. 3100 DPS only self-buffed is pretty decent.

@scarpa if you mean sigil, then you want the sigil of awareness for this build.

@Etalia I think Vicious Strikes is a waste of 2 points. I know you probably put them in there to get your 5 points to get to the next tier but you are not even using either of those abilities. If you want to get to the next tier maybe Anticipation will be better. It will help with solo and the accident agro pulls. I don’t know if the 3% extra strength (Ravenous Dead) is better then the 5% crit (Dark Conviction). Did you try putting the 5 points in Dark Conviction and got lower dps then the 3 in Ravenous Dead. Not saying that you are wrong, but if that gives you more dps then i will switch my spec to Ravenous Dead from Dark Conviction

For my build i didn’t put any points in Runic Power Mastery, reason is 99% of the time i never went over 90 rune. I put 2 points in toughness, reason is Bladed Armor gets the buff for this i believe.

Ive only been playing my dk for four months and I’ve tried a few different specs, but like the unholy spec the most. I’m still learning what rotation works the best for me. I do 2-2.4k dps on a single boss, and its ok, but I dont feel like I’m getting the most out of it. I keep seeing the term “proc” on sites and wonder what it is. Could you explain. I’m goint to try your suggested spec and see how it works for me.

Thanks.
