Lame Exscuse Time…

Posted by: Skeleton Jack   in Questions

Heya guys!!  So…yeah.  I didn’t work today on the site…  >.<  I stayed up late, got no sleep, and dilly dallied.  Yeah, dilly dallied.  I also ended up spending like 4 hours talking to someone.  I got caught up in the conversation, which I enjoyed thouroughly.

So to at least wet your taste buds I’ll reveal some of what I have in store.

Blood Disease-less Spec/Rotation pumping out nearly 7k dps on Patchwerk.  Dancing Rune Weapon even yielding as high as 7k dps on one boss encounter, though I forget the one.  Thanks to Batmack for that.

I tried Frost spec out…  I’m not liking it.  Primarily due to HB being on a CD, but also because Frost has no need for PS.  So without the proper implementation of Death Runes, the rotations are very off.  And AoE rotations from back to back trash fights can get out of synch very quickly.  My dps results were near Unholy, but I totally F’ed up my results…  More on that later.  Long story short though is Frost feels “clunky” compared to Unholy without offering the same level of raid utility with only comparable DPS.

Read between the lines, you get to laugh at me.  A LOT.  But that’s for later.  :P

I picked up Last Laugh last night and finally have a decent pair of 1H’s.  I also raised my skills up tonight to 395, so one instance run should see me capped and I can finally do some DW testing for you guys.

There are some announced “in the works” changes for 3.1 DK’s btw, but honestly…  I wouldn’t expect them to go 100% live as you’d expect.  Let’s take these 3 for example:

  • Sudden Doom ? this talent now procs a Death Coil rather than requiring an additional button click. It works similarly to shamans? Lightning Overload.
  • Gargoyle and Unholy Blight have swapped talent positions. Gargoyle?s damage has increased and runic power cost per time has decreased.
  • The Frost tree has been shuffled. Among other things, PvP talents such as Endless Winter are closer to the top of the tree where Blood and Unholy death knights can access them.

OK, so first off Sudden Doom sure isn’t going to go live as it is now at the same % damage and proc rate.  Blood is scaling very nicely as is, and now you’re talking about freebie DC crits without activation?  Expect to see the % proc rate lower, or the SD DC’s to see a damage nerf.

Gargoyle is going to way of Dancing Rune Weapon.  51 point talent with sick damage.  I think they will still F it up, not making it scale like DRW does.  But for the short term that will be fine.  When you move into T9 content it could propose an issue.

My personal guess is that KM or HB is going to be moved out of range of the typical DW build access.  It would make sense.  Don’t expect this “shuffle” to be positive for all.

And with all that said, I’m out.  That’s plenty to think on.  ;)   I’ll get some juicer stuff out to you guys soon!!

Oh, what am I off to go do?  SLEEP!!!  :P

I’d like to know what kind of rotation is being used on the disease-less blood spec.

SJ,
Hey man, havent posted in a while due to being busy so no worries on your time frame getting us good info. Do what you got to, we work hard in order to support our WoW Addiction.

Anywho…I’ve been sold on the pvp/dps spec 26/0/45
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/deathknight/talents.html?tal=2305021502003300000000000000000000000000000000000000000230232302020115203140203102100

for awhile now. Like you, anytime I spec hard into frost it feels “clunky” to quote you. It just doesnt seem to flow like Unholy does, to me atleast. I do have a couple of questions which I dont know if youll be able to help out with but mabye someone else like Puff or Creep will.

Question 1: Pestillence – Blood Boil.
As of now, since they removed the CD on Pest I never use BB. When doing AoE trash mobs or pvp I start my rotations with IT>PS>(pest)>DnD….once the first mob is down or low I swap to the new target and Pest to reset the DoTs on all other mobs but it, then swap to another and Pest again to get extra damage + reseting the second mobs timers. From there I just SS>SS>Pest>Pest>SS>SS….you get the picture.
Now since I’ve explained what I do, my question is, am I losing damage by using Pest after I have spread the dots by not using BB? Just from the numbers I’ve seen on my screen I hit harder with Pest then BB. I havnt tested it but that just the way it looks to me.

Question 2: Healers (Damn them all)!!!
My gear is defanitly not the greatest by far but its defanitly not crap. Look me up on Armory and you’ll see I would guess I’m mid to upper mid range for dps gear. Priests/Pallys/Shamans/Druids all are really tough for me to solo. If givien enough time I can usually pull them down by making them go out of mana but damn. I fought this restoration shammy in Wintergrasp last night at the fire elementals locations. I got the jump on him and started the beating. I kid you not it took me about 4 to 5 mins to kill him. Everytime I thought I had him he would Natures Swiftness or lesser healing wave himself back to full (out of mana) but back to full health.
So the questions: Please any advice on taking down healers would be most helpful. I do use my stranglate, Mind Freeze, Arcane tourent, Mind Freeze, Gnawl, Mind Freeze, Strangleate, etc…. but damn.

Question 3: Wandering Plauge, is it worth taking 3 talents in it for PvP? Any extra damage helps and with a (arena crit chance of 27-30%) I feel it would proc a decent amount. And seeing how during arena’s I pest alot in order to spread the damage and keep the healing healing himself and his dps the extra damage if enough would help to put him in a bind…

So anyway, I look forward to your replys and help.

They like us using hybrid builds, they just don’t want them to be too powerful compared to the pure builds. If they took HB or KM away from DW spec, it would destroy the spec as we know it. It’s popular for a reason, and I know a LOT of people would be extremely unhappy. I know if it went through the way you say it will, I might as well just give up on leveling my death knight right now. It does NOT make sense, and I don’t know why you would say it does.

I am really looking forward to having Unholy Blight though. As nice as Gargoyle is, I don’t really use it while soloing due to the long cooldown and high RP cost. My DK is merely an alt (if my most played right now), and I’ve always loved the idea of Unholy Blight, but I love DW more, so I’d never get to play with it. This is really nice for me.

(PS, “closer to the top of the tree where Blood and Unholy death knights can access them.” is it just me or does anyone else think of the “top” of the tree as being, well, the bottom? I mean, you climb a tree, right? Why are the talent “trees” upside down? :P )

Moving Gargoyle to the top (or bottom depending on how you look at it) of the unholy tree is going to be blizzards way of nerfind the DW spec. If they remove Gargoyle from this build I think it clears the way to taking the cooldown off of HB making it a less “clunky” build.

I am currently spec’d 0/33/38 and I do like it. I am averagely geared with 980 Str, 3047 Atk pwr, and 386 hit w/o HoW up. On raid bosses though, even with +hit from heroic presence I am missing 11.6% of the time. Until fully geared with about 475 hit it just seems like it is a “wasteful” build. I still did roughly 3.1K dps but it just seems inneficient.

Yeah I’m like you SJ i left frost and went back to unholy again, it was calling my name. And I went back for a few reasons 1. rotation was getting annoying. 2. dailies are way easier than frost. 3. as frost i get raped in world pvp while questing. And 3. I missed my pet =)
oh, now..i know how most don’t like Desacration but when i respec i took it cause i was pvping before raid time and i noticed that when im out of the circle the buff stayed on me for a few secs. So when it was time to raid I had actually forgot to spec out of it. But during the boss encounters when i used it i was watching the buff and when tank moved the boss, and i used Plauge strike. It got reapplied and the buff never went away. I had it on me almost the entire fight. I’m still going to spec out of it though cause there are other talents i want, but just wanted to note that and if anyone else has noticed that too. Oh happy to say I broke 5k dps in our 25man too =)

So it sounds like were going to have to find a new DW spec, because if these changes go through 32/39 will be like trying to be a shockadin as of WotLK. I will most likely go back to blood if this falls through. It sucks because I like being a tauren who is just whipping his arms at the speed of light, it looks cool =(

Mixit- (SJ, im glad you are provoking thought and not just answering the question)

If he is using the rotation I think he is, then I riddle you this: How can you get 6 HS in a row? If you think about it, when you do find out the reasons behind it all become more clear enabling you to better make use of the spec.

Proxy:(carrying on with thought provoking answers)

What advantage depending on spec could come from using BB that would allow you to dish out more dmg? What talent would augment it?

Also, I’m tanking these days so if you have any questions you guys can feel free to pop em out and someone will answer em.

Id take a stab at the diseaseless blood rotation as:

IT-PS-HS-HS-OB Dump and repeat
OR
IT-PS-HS-HS-HS-HS Dump

They seem almost interchangeable however i use the former

You do realize that “Disease-less” implies you never ever ever use one disease right?!?!

IT and PS cause diseases. So no. You never use those 2. :)
