Things to remember

  1. These items are weighted using a system commonly refered to as APE, or Attack Power Equivalency.  This uses mathematical formulas, and often times simulators, to determine how much each attribute contributes to your dps.  It equates item stat values into a numeric value that equals 1 Attack Power, or 1 AP.
  2. APE means exactly what it says, this item has an equivalent value of x AP.  So if it says 1 is 519 APE and 2 is 492 APE, swapping from 2 to 1 would be like gaining 27 Attack Power.
  3. Take everything here with a grain of salt.  If you had all of your gear epic’d out from Naxx+, it’s likely your personal stats will skew the results of “best in slot”.  Short of running a simulator, it’s nearly impossible to know what the best stats are for any one character.  APE changes as your stats change.  As one stat goes up, its value to your dps goes down.  Meanwhile other stats’ values will go up in value.  This however is a good baseline, assuming you have the equivalent best in slot items and have kept your stats balanced while gearing out.
  4. I don’t personally give Agility the full weight it deserves.  I weigh Agility in at 85% value.  This counteracts the spell crit it does not give to abilities like Death and Decay, Icy Touch, and Death Coil for example.  Also, I don’t give it value for the AP gains if you have 5/5 Bladed Armor (which many pure dps specs do).  18 Agi is effectively 1 AP due to the armor gain from Agi.
  5. Some stats can be capped.  You do not want more than you can actually use.  Items with a stat that you’ve exceeded the cap are not worth their “true” value anymore because you’re not getting all of the benefit.
  6. The hit cap is 295.11 rating or 9%.  The spell hit cap is 288.53 rating or 17% if you have 3/3 Virulence and Misery debuff up.  Meaning your hit cap is 295.11 so long as you have Virulence and a debuff.
  7. The expertise cap is 122.96 rating or 15 skill for Blood.  The cap for Unholy/Blood is 172.15 rating or 21 skill.
  8. Your stats need to be balanced.  If you pick gear that always has +Strength on them, then you’re going to be screwed. These items are balanced around the concept that you do not overstack certain stats.  Aka, 4% hit and 3000 AP is bad.  But so is 15% hit and 1500 AP.  Sticking with these item lists will usually avoid that however.
  9. If you don’t agree you should seriously take a moment to stop and think about what factual data you have to back up that feeling.  Often times the number crunchers out there find things that look wrong to the average person.

You just hit 80!?!? What do you do now?!!? ZOMG!!!

Posted by: Skeleton Jack    in Questions

Heya guys!!  So, you just hit level 80 and you suddenly realize, “Hey, I don’t have to quest anymore!!!”  Well…  You’re probably cheering, or getting of the comp to get some sleep, or begging for a heroic group…  No telling!!

But the question arises is what should you be doing?  Well, a lot of that depends on what your focus is.  If your goal atm is PvP, I’ve got some bad news for you.  It’s under populated atm.  So while I do encourage you to que up and get to working on it, it’s not going to be a rich environment yet.

The upside however is that if you’ve got some spare gold laying around, or like to spend time farming, they have several crafted pieces of gear out there for blue pieces with resilience.  It’s a nice jump start into PvP, especially since you couldn’t have banked any Honor as a Death Knight.

While I do plan on PvP’ing quite a bit, and telling you guys all about it.  The fact is you have to make a list of priorities.  And since there will not be a massive PvP group of games going (with most people still leveling), the best course of action is to prepare for raiding.

Now for those of you sitting there going…  “I’m not a raider man.”  Think again.  All of the raid content in WoW WotLK has already been cleared by the top guild in WoW.  And they did this in less than 4 days from the release date.  Now, best guild or not, you know what that means right?  It’s the easiest raiding has ever been.  These guys did this in greens/blues they got from leveling.

On top of that, you have Naxxramus.  Easily held in its first incarnation as the pinnacle of crafted online dungeons, it is an experience no one should miss out on.  So much so, that they redesigned it for LK so that everyone could see it.  Trust me fellow murderers in training, every Death Knight needs their day in Naxx!!

For those offended by the “fellow murderers in training” please note the top caption of my page says, “Killing people one day at a time…”  This is a blog about a game.  I murder pixels technically.  And then these pixels magically reform themselves shortly after.  Anyone taking offense to that reference needs to get a life, a personality, and a brain.  This is for fun.  Go away.

Moving on however!!! :D

The best thing to do honestly is heroics.  They are no where near as difficult as they were in BC, and this is the best rep farming mechanism in game.  Far better than daily quests.  To start you off I’ll list the big time factions for you.  There are other ones, but the rewards for them tend to be not as good.  Also, exlcuding the Sons of Hodir, you can use reputation tabards in heroics to gain rep with them.

Major Factions

  1. The Wyrmrest Accord - focused on healers
  2. The Sons of Hodir – shoulder enchants and no rep tabard, important to note
  3. Knights of the Ebon Blade - focused on melee dps
  4. Argent Crusade - focused on tanks
  5. Kirin Tor - focused on dps casters

Helm Enchants

Things to remember

  • Always, always, always put on a tabard when you do an instance.
  • Heroic instances give far greater rewards.  Badges, higher level items, 1 epic, Frozen Orbs, improved recipie drops, better rep, etc…
  • Go visit every single rep Quartermaster in game for LK and buy what items and enchants you can use.  Go buy every single tabard you can get.
  • Do the Sons of Hodir daily quests every day.
  • Once you hit Revered with an important faction, swap your tabard out for another.  It is far more efficient to max out several to Revered than 1 at Exalted and several at Honored.
  • Check the AH every day for deals on item upgrades.
  • Find your niche for gold making, whether it be questing, dailies, grinding, farming, or AH grinding.
  • Everything you can buy with the new badges is HERE!!

Heya guys!! Welcome to the first installment of the best in slot items for Death Knights.  Epics for everyone!!!  YAY!!!  So what are the best items in game for your Death Knight to wear?  Well, the first thing you need to know, is that which spec you are will greatly change which items are better.  So I will list these items for you per spec and per slot.  Aren’t I a sweetie?

If your answer was yes and you’re male…  You’re fired.  If your answer was yes and you’re female…  If you’re hot, then call me.  If not, you’re fired from being a Death Knight too.
